Hormones in Children's School Milk!

My daughter is now 3 years old and I have been blessed to find a preschool where I am allowed to make meal substitutions.

She still does not eat animal products and rarely eats sugar and that alone makes it impossible for her to just eat school provided meals... a sad reality for our children!

More and more our food is being tampered with and the milk given in schools, most likely contain genetically engineered ingredients and genetically engineered growth hormone called recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) that increases cows' milk production.

According to the Center For Food Safety, roughly 15 percent of all dairies (mostly large dairies) in the United States inject their cows with (rBGH). It is possible that at least 84 million gallons of milk from artificial hormone-treated cows were distributed through the school nutrition programs in fiscal year 2005-2006 – or about one out of five pints of milk offered in school cafeterias nationwide.

I always suggest organic foods but even that I find to not always be as healthy as we think. I recently bought some tangerines at WholeFoods Market (WFM) and when I brought it home, I found it had no seeds!

I was outraged because that is an indication the fruit is not a natural fruit and a potential allergen.  After visiting the company's website and confirming the fruit was a hybrid, I called WFM and was told that what they do not buy are Genetically Modified Foods (GMO), but man made food was okay...

Wow... I should not be surprised... have you noticed how it is increasingly more difficult to buy seeded grapes!?

Anyway... what can we do to be sure we and our children are getting enough calcium if we do not want to consume cow's milk?  Well, you may want to try organic goat's milk if you must have milk. Goats are a natural animal and not a hybrid and you may also consider Dr. Sebi's Seamoss Bladderwrack and a grain called Amaranth, which contains two times more calcium than milk! We highly suggest Zeal for Life Drink for it's ability to nourish at a cellular level and soon they will have an option without Guarana.

In the meantime, we can combine our efforts and help asking Congress to clarify that schools do have the option to purchase milk from cows that are not treated with artificial growth hormones. With nearly 430 million gallons of milk distributed through national school milk programs, we have to take action now to get artificial hormones out of our school milk!

Seems there are hormones in all the dairy and meat products. When I eat inorganic turkey or chicken I get a prickly sensation. Maybe it's just me and a handful of others that have this sensitivity, likely the result of hormone injections to create artificial premature growth in the birds. Like you, I shop at Whole Foods, but even there you have to be careful. The company 365 imports some of its produce from China. Check the back of the frozen peas and beans to be sure its had to pass USA's more rigorous inspection.

I absolutely agree you should have at minimum an option to keep your kids healthy and free from the same size fits all mentality. Good article

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. I appreciate your input and the chance to learn what others think on this subject. I have been very disgusted by WFM in their practices... will not go into details but indeed we must continue to be educated and updated on what is going on. Thank you again.
